Welcome to the Captain- BLUTH

anyone seen this show? there are some pilot episodes on CBS.com
Jeff Tambor is Uncle Saul- and he is pretty much Bluth in a different setting, at least the way he talks to people.
kinda stupid but funny show, worth a look i think

also- the network .coms are getting pretty good with the freee shows. abc has the best selection and technology, but they all have some good stuff, and killer - classics- from miami vice to twilight zone, there's some stuff out there, very limited commercials, about 1 min per 20 compared to five times that on tv

WOW WOW WOW - an A.D. MOVIE?

This just posted on Yahoo TV/ link below, good Lord this would rule:
------------------------------------------------------------------

Exclusive! Jason Bateman Confirms Arrested Development Movie Talks
By Kristin Dos Santos Fri Feb 1, 5:59 PM PST

This just might be the best news we Arrested fans have heard in a very long time.

Jason Bateman has just confirmed to me that the creative minds behind Arrested Development (Mitch Hurwitz and Ron Howard) have put the wheels in motion toward a major motion picture of the Fox TV comedy so many of us adore. I'm told by insiders that Jason and other Bluth family members have received calls from producers (Hurwitz and Howard) asking if they would be willing to shoot a movie.

"I can confirm that a round of sniffing has started," Bateman says. "Any talk is targeting a poststrike situation, of course. I think, as always, that it's a question of whether the people with the money are willing to give our leader, Mitch Hurwitz, what he deserves for his participation. And I can speak for the cast when I say our fingers are crossed."

Jeffrey Tambor also revealed on XM Radio's the Ron and Fez Show that he has been approached by Ron Howard to see if he's willing to do an Arrested film. (You can hear that interview below.)

For the record, both Jason and Jeffrey's answers were: Hells yeah. And I hear from other sources that other castmembers were called and that everyone seems to be very much on board and excited by the prospect.

Insiders also tell me that while creator Mitch Hurwitz does not yet have a script, he has a good, solid understanding of what he'd like to do for the movie, and Universal is very much interested.

And so it seems that a few good—wait, no, outrageously amazing—things just might come out of this unfortunate writers' strike, as the creative minds in this town have had time to pause, regroup and think about their dream projects.

And an Arrested movie is a pretty great dream, is it not?

So, let's join our crossed fingers with the rest of the cast, shall we? And how about a little support in the Comments section below?

Just saw this yesterday. Really funny movie. Michael Cera and Jason Bateman were awesome like usual. Although I kept thinking Cera (as I did in Superbad) was George Michael - since his characters are so alike.

This is real, and it's not a joke, but it should be.

Then watch this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nAV0sxwx9rY

This is Michael Cera's (George Michael's) hilarious spoof of that video.

Good times. Anyone else miss AD?

I don't really know what it has to do with gaming, or how long they intend to run it as they will burn through the 2 1/2 seasons worth of shows pretty damn quickly.

Anguish

Hi there
I'm sure I am a bit late coming to this forum but being from Australia, we are just starting on the third season now (no thanks to the network that is showing it who has done just about everything to discourage an audience except for coming around to your house personally and beating you up if they find out you are watching it)
I better fes up.....I am from Adelaide, Australia the birthplace of the most powerful media mogul in the world (you know, Rupert). I'm sooooo ashamed.
Anyway, I hope you like this little description of the inner workings of fox. (makes me want to keep all my anguish to myself.....clutching my butt cheeks as I type). Sorry if you've seen it before, I'm new......

Anguish
Perhaps the most nefarious department in the sinister Fox empire, Anguish
specializes in nuturing brilliant, wonderful television shows. It shepherds
these shows through the long and difficult process of development, keeping
their quirky spirit intact. It then brings these shows to air just long enough to develop a small but devoted audience, then mercilessly cancels them. The resulting outcry of rage and despair from the show's viewers is then harvested by specially trained druids, and mystically transferred to Rupert Murdoch, further increasing his dark powers. [ha!]

Strangely enough, though the Anguish division's workings are well-documented,
audiences keep falling for them all the same. Victims of the Anguish department include Firefly, Futurama, and most recently, Arrested Development.

I heard on the radio this morning from the SF Chroncle writer (who seems to have an in with Jason Bateman) that it's fairly definitive that Showtime has picked up AD for 2 seasons of 13 episodes, plus the old ones. ABC said this last weekend they are passing.

What's Up All?

I am a huge fan of Arrested Development, and I want to see a fourth season, and more.

I was looking at all the online petitions, and there are a lot of them, to Save the Bluths..

I am urging you to search google, or the search engine of your choice for Arrested Development Petitions and sign all of them.. There are some to keep it on Fox, others for ABC to pick up the show and so on.

Also, if there is one in particular with more signatures, maybe post a link here to get other to sign, tell your friends and all that good stuff.

This show is too good to be gone already..

Whereas, the second season of “Arrested Development” was nominated for 11 2005 Emmy awards and won seven;
Whereas, the first and second seasons of “Arrested Development” have, combined, won 13 awards from various recognized groups other than the Academy Of Television Arts And Sciences;

Whereas, “Arrested Development” has been referred to as “one of the best shows of the year”, “a fantastic show”, “the funniest show on television”, “the best new comedy”, “one of the best things to happen to television”, “incredibly funny and ingenious”, and “pants-wettingly funny” by prestigious and discerning critics throughout the United States;

Whereas, “Arrested Development”, as of October 25, 2005, is the highest-rated show in the Comedy category of TV.com with a 9.1 rating of “Superb”;

Whereas, “Arrested Development”, as of October 25, 2005, is first in the TV Comedy Shows (Current) category at RateItAll.com and is the only show in that category with an average rating of 4.0 or higher;

Whereas, over 52000 individuals have, in the past, petitioned to keep “Arrested Development” on television through online means;

We, the undersigned, therefore, petition the executives of FOX Broadcasting Company to allow the program “Arrested Development” to remain in the primetime schedule for the remaining portion of its third season and to return for a fourth season in the fall of 2006.

Signed:
This update was added to the petition statement on November 12th, 2005 at 1:20 am

FOX has officially reduced its order of episodes of Arrested Development and will not be showing the show at all during November.

Some of you may not realize just how serious this situation is. If we do not get our message through, Arrested Development *will not* return ever again.

Please tell everyone you can about the show and this petition. Put links to http://petitionspot.com/petitions/arresteddev in your email and forum signatures and websites. Tell anybody you can find about this. We need many more signatures, and we have so little time!

Why NBC gets it...

So I was watching "My Name Is Earl" last night and they had a commercial on announcing that they were moving both Earl and The Office to Thursday, one of the top nights for advertising dollars. Obviously the move to Thursday was obvious for Earl because it's one of the top rated comedies on the network, but The Office loses a huge chunk of the audience despite being critically acclaimed. The programming people at NBC, though, are at least trying to support The Office specifically because it's a well regarded show despite the ratings.

I only wish Fox had the vision that the NBC execs have.

"Sources have confirmed to me that Justine Bateman is on the set today of her brother Jason's show ... Arrested Development.

"She's playing Michael Bluth's 'sister.'

"Her episode is called 'Family Ties.'

"Now it's clear what Jason meant when he recently told me that this big guest star would be someone that 'I know I'll be happy to see.'"

Ever since Fox announced they were cutting back on AD's episode order-
fans have been showing their support for Arrested Development by
buying the DVDs of the first 2 seasons. Amazingly enough-they are
the number 1 AND 2 best selling DVDs on amazon.com! They are also
really really cheap, so if you haven't got them yet-this is a great
time to do so and show your support! Who knows-maybe FOX will
realize the DVD sales will supplement the production of more episodes!!

A: Yeah, find some Nielsen friends and start watching when the show returns to finish its run Dec. 5.

Other than that, not much. But listen, there are people inside Fox who adamantly believe (perhaps foolishly) that a miracle could happen. And here's the scenario for that: No freshman series is a bona fide hit, and shows like "Stacked" are tanking. Come May, when Entertainment President Peter Ligouri assembles his executives and puts the pieces together for next season's schedule, he just may look down the bench at "Arrested Development" and decide to keep it as a gem that can be shifted to a better night (DVD sales and Emmy lustre helping to offset the dire ratings).

Ligouri, former head of FX, should look to his former head of programming there, Kevin Reilly, who is currently in charge at NBC. Reilly recently renewed "The Office," a low-rated, critically-acclaimed series that bleeds millions of viewers after "My Name Is Earl." Why renew it? Because Reilly knows "The Office" is a great show, despite not finding a massive audience. Ligouri, too, loves "Arrested Development" and should stick with his gut on this one. Why? Because Fox, outside of animated series, hasn't launched a good sitcom in ages.

Then again, Ligouri and Fox have apparently given approval for creator and executive producer Mitch Hurwitz to shop the series elsewhere...

dvds help keep arrested on the air

DVDs help keep `Arrested' on the air
http://metromix.chicagotribune.com/tv/mmx-0510230438oct23,0,598415.story?coll=mmx-television_heds
By Maureen Ryan

The conventional wisdom says Fox's Emmy-winning comedy "Arrested Development" is a cult success but a commercial failure.

The conventional wisdom may well be wrong.

The critically acclaimed show, which returns from Fox's baseball break with two episodes featuring guest star Charlize Theron on Nov. 7, is indeed ratings challenged, but it's surprisingly dominant in another arena.

Fox won't release sales totals, but executives at the company's home-video division say the first two seasons of "Arrested," which chronicles the lives of the dysfunctional Bluth family, have sold very well on DVD.

"There's a lot of awareness of the series" thanks to extensive media coverage of the show, says Steven Feldstein, senior vice president of Fox Home Entertainment, which released Season 2 Oct. 11.

"There are a lot of people who maybe haven't sampled it yet and have the opportunity to do so on DVD; that's in addition to . . . the show's die-hard fans."

Season 2 of the show has spent much of the past week at the top of Amazon.com's boxed-set best-sellers chart, and that kind of commercial success, along with critical praise, industry awards and a supportive Internet fan base, has helped keep the show alive.

"Arrested" creator Mitchell Hurwitz says he doesn't think the show will end up producing the entire run of 22 third-season episodes (Fox cut the show's second season order from 22 episodes to 18), but he says he thinks Fox will keep the comedy in production long enough to make a Season 3 DVD boxed set worthwhile.

"It won't be 22," Hurwitz said. "It might be a good number" so that Fox can release the third season on DVD. "If they know they can sell those DVDs, they might keep it on the air long enough to have enough to sell it [that way]."

Strong DVD sales alone would not keep the show alive, though it's one of many factors in "Arrested's" favor, according to Craig Erwich, executive vice president of programming at the Fox network. "At the end of the day, networks have to sustain themselves with revenue that comes from ratings," Erwich said. "That's not to say other revenue streams don't factor in."

DVD sales, though they are a boon for the company as a whole, mainly function for broadcast executives as an indicator of "the kind of vitality the show has," Erwich said. "Strong DVD sales tell us what we know -- that `Arrested Development' is a great show and people love it. The other benefit is that sometimes DVDs are a good way to bring in new viewers."

Fox has had record-setting success with its DVD releases of "The Simpsons," "The X-Files" and "Family Guy" -- in fact, "Family Guy's" DVD releases were so successful that it was put back into production. And the potential for other revenue has been expanded again, now that Apple's iTunes is offering TV shows for sale.

"In the TV market, there might be a little bit of change," Hurwitz said. "Maybe you used to need an 11 [ratings] share to stay on the air, but maybe now you can have a smaller number, but make up for it with people who purchase the show."

"Ours has always been a country of niche audiences," says Jimmy Schaeffler, senior research analyst for the media consulting firm The Carmel Group. "What developments like these point out is that large media companies are not only starting to realize that fact, but they are making it a part of their business plans. . . . In the new telecom and media business, there are lots of ways to make money."

Passionate fans are an important part of that new equation, and "Arrested" has very loyal viewers. They flooded Fox and media outlets with fake bananas (the Bluth family owns a banana stand) and letters asking the network to bring the show back for a third year, and they're poised to spring into action again.

"If the show is put on hiatus, we would obviously flood Fox with letters again . . . pleading with them to bring the show back, pointing out the potential for future DVD sales, syndication rights, etc.," says Katherine McKee of SaveOurBluths.com. "We might also include a campaign to other networks such as NBC and HBO."

The question now for "Arrested" fans is how many episodes they'll get to see on the air this season. Some media insiders have floated the idea that Fox could move its struggling Monday sitcoms, "Arrested" and "Kitchen Confidential," to Fridays, but Erwich said that's unlikely. And what will happen to "Arrested Development" once "American Idol" churns up Fox's schedule in January is anybody's guess.

Still, though Hurwitz said he greatly appreciates the critical and fan support for "Arrested Development," he says it's not time for a save-our-show campaign -- yet.

"I really believe everyone at Fox desperately wants the show to succeed and is tremendously dedicated to that goal," Hurwitz said. "I hope they've come to see the show as a loss leader, not a negative to the network, but a different kind of positive."

So we've been told before that AD was close to getting cancelled, but they were all false alarms. This one sounds for real. From Tim Goodman's latest column in which he lists the most vulnerable shows currently on the air:

-- "Arrested Development." The funniest show on television is all but dead. There's no official announcement yet, but all the signs are there, and if this short-lived thing of beauty even manages to deliver half of a season, consider that a sanctioned-by-Rome miracle.

The ratings are abysmal. Fewer than 4 million viewers, which puts it in cable territory. Despite what may have been one of its funniest episodes ever in the first week, nobody watched. This past Monday, even fewer people watched. So much for Emmy power. So much for Charlize Theron as a cameo draw.

Blame? Easy. Fox moved the series from Sunday to Monday, which was: (a) stupid, (b) a planned assassination or (c) all of the above. The network barely promoted the night switch -- a killer for viewers, especially those trying to sample 30 new series -- and sure enough, "Arrested Development" drew fewer viewers than last season. Worse, once on Monday, the series got almost no push. Now, there's one more episode before Major League Baseball pre-empts the show -- and Fox will air "Prison Break" repeats in that slot for a bit after that and before, ahem, bringing back "Arrested Development."

Yeah, that'll happen. Enjoy next Monday's episode. Chances are, everything after that will be dubbed "the lost episodes" on the next DVD. Here's how things get worse for Fox: "Kitchen Confidential" is also dying on Mondays. That means Fox hasn't been able to launch a decent sitcom in some time, and, no, "The War at Home" on Sundays doesn't count. If you watch that, you deserve it.

But it's true that the audience always decides. Always. And if it doesn't want "Arrested Development" but gloms onto the asinine "War at Home," three things are in play here: (a) Nielsen families have lame taste, (b) we get the television we really deserve and (c) most damning, the theory of sophisticated urban viewers is out the window. San Francisco was the 27th-ranked market for "Arrested Development." New York, Los Angeles and Chicago all tied for 21st. And Boston was 45th. So much for savvy. Let's move to Portland, Ore., -- it was the No. 1-ranked market for "Arrested Development."

This topic was about beat to death on the Fox board, but I never really felt all that satisfied with the answers that people came up with.

So, what do you all think the joke was in the episode where Tobias kept hanging out in the fireplaces?

I recently watched season 1 on dvd, but didnt bother trying to catch season 2 on tv in the middle of its run. I heard that they were going to show reruns of season 2 this summer? Will it be the complete season? in order? if anyone has any information about this, PLEASE let me know. I don't want to wait until season 2 comes out on DVD. (since by that time, season 3 will have already started and this visious cycle will continue)

By Joal Ryan

Arrested Development has a batch of Emmys, a devoted following and, now, an early spring vacation.

The award-winning, but ratings-challenged Fox comedy series will wrap its season a month early, sitting out the May sweeps and, at the network's behest, producing slightly less than the usual 22-episode run.

Bad signs or no, TV's messed-up Bluth clan have not been handed their walking papers. Yet. Fox has three more months to mull the series' fate before the new fall schedule is announced in May.

The comedy remains in production with about two more episodes yet to be filmed. There would be even more episodes to shoot, but Fox cut the order, the Hollywood Reporter said Wednesday.

The move came after Fox opted to slide American Dad into Arrested Development's 8:30 p.m., Sunday slot, starting May 1.

Appearing on ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live early Thursday, comic David Cross (news)--Arrested's sexually ambiguous Tobias--said that he hoped Fox would come up with something original, if not P.C., to sub for his show, "like, you know, America's Cutest Retards."

American Dad, the new animated comedy from the creator of Family Guy, scored with 15.2 million in a sneak preview following Sunday's Super Bowl.

Arrested Development, which has bounced around in various time slots on Sunday night, is averaging 6.1 million viewers this season. It's down there with struggling Fox comedies Malcolm in the Middle (6.2 million) and That '70s Show (6.4 million--and already expected back for next season).

Low ratings are part of Arrested Development lore. When it won the Emmy in September for Outstanding Comedy Series, executive producers Ron Howard and Brian Grazer's pet project became the least watched broadcast network show ever to claim that prize--and that was when it was drawing 6.2 million viewers a week.

If the laugh track-free show has struggled to convince groups of greater than 6 million to tune in en masse, it has found garnering critical praise a breeze. Stated the New York Times last November: "Arrested Development really is very funny."

The show won five Emmys in all last year, and a Golden Globe last month for Jason Bateman, who stars as Michael, the Bluth family's token sane person.

As of Thursday afternoon, the inevitable "Save Arrested Development petition was online, and going strong with more than 1,700 names attached.

Now if only a few million more viewers would attach themselves to the cause...

*** I've taken the liberty of finding the link to the petition: http://www.petitiononline.com/Arrested/petition.html

One way to show support for the show is to buy Season 1 of Arrested Development on DVD. When FOX saw increased sales of the Family Guy they agreed to more episodes after it had been cancelled and with Firefly, they made a movie. And besides, I bought it and is even better the second time around...hey brother.

Yay! Jason Bateman! Yay, Golden Globes!

It's too bad Arrested Development lost it to Desperate Housewives, but if there was any show I could've stand to see them lose it to, it's that one.

I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Brian and I just bought the 1st season on DVD. I missed most of the first season, but have been watching the 2nd season ever week. This has got to be the funniest show on TV right now.

DVD Episodes out of order

I just bought the Season One DVD set and just finished the first disc. Barely into the last episode on disc one I realized that the last two episodes were out of order.

Anyone know if there's a reason they did this? I looked at disc two and the listed air dates are out of order on there also. It makes no sense at all.

On episode "Visiting Ours" (Air date: 12/07/03) Buster decides to visit his mother's friend. That episode is on the disc before "Charity Drive" (Air date: 11/30/03) where Buster is trying to avoid her.

Here are Disc 2 & 3 run orders.
(original air dates)
* indicates episodes out of place

Disc Two run order:
"My Mother The Car" (12/21/03)*
"In God We Trust" (12/14/03)*
"Storming The Castle" (01/04/04)
"Pier Pressure" (01/11/04)
"Public Relations" (01/25/04)
"Marta Complex" (02/08/04)
"Beef Consomme" (02/15/04)
"Shock And Aww" (03/07/04)

Disc Three run order:
"Staff Infection" (03/14/04)
"Missing Kitty" (03/28/04)*
"Alter Egos" (03/17/04)*
"Justice Is Blind" (03/21/04)*
"Best Man For The GOB" (04/04/04)
"Whistler's Mother" (04/11/04)
"Not Without My Daughter" (04/25/04)
"Let Them Eat Cake" (06/06/04)

Doesn't make sense to me. Any clues?

We had never seen this show, but we're avid David Cross fans...I saw him on Jimmy Kimmel one night recently and he was plugging the first season on DVD...I ordered it from amazon.com...we watched it in three sittings! What a great show! Now we set aside Sunday nights just for that...and that Big Obnoxious Boss show that comes on right after was hysterical too...

I really recommend the DVD set...

Fox put in an order for 22 new episodes but they want the plotlines to be less haphazard and the endings to be tighter. Hopefully this won't kill it. It's still doing sucky in the ratings but they're keeping it on in the slot after the Simpsons, and with 7 Emmy nominations, it may still catch on to a broader audience. There was an article about it in Sunday's NY Times. You can find it on their website, too.

http://www.bravotv.com/Celebrity_Poker_Showdown/Recaps/3/

David Cross is the most entertaining poker player in the world. Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Judy Greer did their fair share as well, but that guy from Six Feet Under was considerably less funny. What, does Jeffrey Tambor not play poker? :-)

Fox hasn't decided whether to renew ARRESTED for next season

But they are deciding nowish. The ratings aren't all that great for A.D. It's true there are a lot of idiots out there. Or a nice way to put it is it hasn't found its audience yet. Who should we hit with letters to try to keep it on the air? Maybe Craig Erwich, the Exec VP of Programming at FOX? Jeremy Gold, SVP of Comedy Development? It would certainly be a start. The address is 10201 W. Pico Blvd., P.O. Box 900, Los Angeles, CA 90025 (I think that's the right zip but you may want to look it up).

Best show

Definitely, Arrested Development is the best show of the new season, in agreement with previous post.

And I agree, everyone with whom I speak always says they never have seen it. Thank god for tivo

Jason Bateman was always someone I knew had talent, from Silver Spoons and It´s Your Move days, but this show proves it. And the rest of the cast -- excellent

I think the show is probably the best move Liza Minelli could have made after that whole ex-husband thing was brewing, as she did fabulously and I am not even a fan really at all.

Who´s next to post a favorite momento? The "hermano" storyline was brilliant, esp. the line where Gob muses on his saying Mon Frere, even though he took 4 years of Spanish in school and not a day of French! BRILLANTE!
